Tokyo

Tokyo is an architectural free-for-all, chaotic to many, amazing to more: a dynamic cityscape of old temples amidst soaring skyscrapers, expressways shooting over mazes of tiny alleys, and winding streets of mom-and-pop shops overshadowed by modern developments. It's a city of urban villages, each with its own character. Tokyo is also surprisingly clean, efficient, and easy to get around, with a public transport system that is legendary for efficiency. It's also place where you can get things done, or just shop 'til you drop—for almost anything you can name. And on top of all this, Tokyo can rightly boast of some of the safest streets anywhere, and hospitable people who are always ready to help out if you get lost.

At the western edge of the inner city are the skyscrapers of Shinjuku, home to Tokyo Metropolitan Government and host to ICAPP2009. From dazzling high rises, including a newly built opera district, to the gorgeously landscaped gardens of Shinjuku-gyoen, crowded discount shops, and more restaurants and bars than any one person could ever visit, Shinjuku has something for everybody.

May is the best season to visit Tokyo. There is little rain, temperatures hover in the low 20s (centigrade), and it is not yet too humid. A perfect season for walking and exploring.

About the Meeting

Following the highly successful ICAPP 2008 meeting held in Anaheim, USA, the 2009 International Congress on Advances in Nuclear Power Plants will bring together international experts of the nuclear industry involved in operation, development, building, regulation and research related to Nuclear Power Plants. The program will cover the full spectrum of Nuclear Power Plant issues, from design, deployment, and construction of plants to research and development of future designs and advanced systems. The program is expected to cover lessons learned from power, research and demonstration reactors, from over 50 years of experience with operation and maintenance, structures, materials, technical specifications, human factors, system design and reliability. This congress will have full-length, peer reviewed technical papers, which will be published on a CDROM, available at the meeting. Papers of archival quality will be recommended for publication in special issues of the Atomic Energy Society Japan Journals. All authors will be expected to present their paper in English at the congress. About 20 minutes will be allotted for each paper. At least one author is required to register for the congress to present a paper.
